The Philippines has one of the most destined tourist attractions in the world. And when it comes to a relaxing nature and forest adventures, one may end up heading to its provinces for these jewels.
1. Flora and Fauna
A home to 12 hectares of pine trees, durian orchards, waling-waling forest, and wildflowers is the Malagos Garden Resort. It is nestled in the heart of Barangay Malagos in Calinan, Davao. We reached the cool highlands via a 45-minute drive from the city.
We paid an entrance fee of Php 200.00 per person and a shuttle guided tour for Php 100.00 per person.
2. Bird Park
We have enjoyed too much and had some wonderful fun feeding the exotic and colorful birds found in this forest. It took us some time, though, to make them land in our palms. They’re pretty like humans, they have to know first whether they can trust you or not. So we understood. That is why we had to stay for a while and waited until they grab the food we offer.
Our day tour was not complete without visiting the varieties of animals housed in different cages and pens. Looking at them made us feel that sometimes life is better away from the noise of the city.
4. Butterfly sanctuary
The butterfly sanctuary found in the middle of the forest is the most lovely. We all love butterflies. And watching their beautiful movement in flight is just awesome. So we spent some time goofing around, trying our very best to catch one. Unfortunately, not all of us were lucky enough to get hold of any. Also, they had dried butterflies preserved in frames.
5. Fish pond
Feeding fishes are much simpler and easier than feeding birds! All we had to do is throw out fish food in the pond and in few seconds you can find a school of fishes getting crazy over a meal.
By the way, accommodations are also available from the resort for those who wanted to enjoy the cool mountain breeze much longer and overnight. We didn’t get a chance to have this as we tried to maximize our short stay in Davao so we preferred a day’s tour only.
